EDS held by Leicester in goalless draw

Brian Barry-Murphy‘s side dominated against the Foxes, with Juan Larios hitting the post and James McAtee seeing a penalty appeal turned down, before Shea Charles came close to winning it at the death as we were forced to settle for a point. 

WHAT HAPPENED 

City dominated possession in the first half, keeping it comfortably in both defence and midfield to dictate the game.

It took until the half hour mark for McAtee to register the first shot of the contest, whilst Kayky also saw an effort blocked from inside the area, but, on a pitch plagued by heavy rain, both sides struggled to create chances in the opening 45 minutes.

Straight after the break, McAtee was brought down inside the area by Sammy Braybrooke for what looked like a certain penalty but the appeals were waved away by the referee.

And, City came close to scoring minutes later when a ball across the box allowed Juan Larios to unleash a powerful left-footed strike which cannoned off the outside of the post. 

The Foxes responded with two chances of their own, as Thai striker Thanawat Suengchitthawon saw a strike pushed onto the woodwork by Cieran Slicker, before the resulting corner was also fired wide by the Leicester number nine.

Half-time substitute Carlos Borges forced a save from Leicester keeper Brad Young, before Kayky swiped an effort wide of the post as we continued to look for a winner. 

Slicker was called into action to push over Ben Nelson’s header in added time, before we had a chance in the final seconds, as Charles’ late strike from inside the box was pushed over by Young after some nice interplay with Larios.

HOW WE LINED UP 

Slicker was in goal behind a back four of Charles, captain CJ Egan-Riley, Luke Mbete and Larios. 

Darko Gyabi sat deep in midfield alongside McAtee, with Oscar Bobb playing a more advanced role in the West Midlands. 

Sam Edozie was welcomed back into the side for the first time since recovering from injury, joining Liam Delap and Kayky in attack.

WHAT IT MEANS 

A draw sees us increase our lead to the top of the Premier League 2 to eight points over our closest rivals West Ham. 

However, the Hammers do have two games in hand, which could see them close the gap to two points should they win both those fixtures.

The EDS face another away trip in two weeks’ time as we travel to South London to face Crystal Palace.
