Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad will kick off the new Premier League 2 season with a trip to tackle Liverpool Under-21s on Sunday, August 7, kick-off 2pm.

Meanwhile our Under-18s will start the defence of their Under-18 North crown away to Newcastle on Saturday, August 20, kick-off 11.30am.

The fixtures for the new 2022/23 Premier League 2 and Under-18 campaigns – which begin next month – were officially unveiled today.

Both our EDS and Under-18s squads will be setting out in defence of the PL2 and Under 18 titles we have won in such impressive fashion for the past two seasons.

The format of the PL2 competition will change from the start of the 2022/23 season, with Premier League 2 becoming an Under-21 competition as opposed to Under-23s

Clubs will, however, be permitted to use five (previously three) over-age outfield players and one over-age goalkeeper, in order to transition from its Under-23 format.

Following our season opener away at Liverpool, the EDS’s first home game at the Academy Stadium will see us play host to Leicester on Sunday, August 14, kick-off 2pm.

Amongst other highlights, we travel to face Manchester United in the first PL2 derby of the season on Saturday, November 5 kick-off 1pm, with the return derby at the Academy Stadium pencilled in for Saturday, March 18, kick-off 3pm.

We end the season with a home clash against Wolves on Saturday, April 29, kick-off 1pm.

As with last term, the league consists of 14 teams with Fulham and Wolves having been being promoted from PL2 Division Two, with every side again playing 26 games over the course of the campaign.

Mirroring the men’s first team, there is also a hiatus in action across the period spanning the Qatar 2022 World Cup from late November through December.

As for our Under 18s, their league campaign gets under way on Saturday, August 20 with that trip to Newcastle United, kick-off 11.30am.

Ben Wilkinson’s side then play our first home game at the CFA against Derby on Saturday, August 27, kick-off 11.30am.

We host the first derby of the season against Manchester United on Saturday, November 12, kick-off 11.30am with the return derby taking place at Carrington on Saturday, April 15, kick-off 11am.

And our final fixture takes us to Derby County on Sunday, April 29, kick-off 12.30pm.
