Under-18s assistant lead Calum McFarlane says there is an eager sense of anticipation amongst the City youngsters ahead of Wednesday night’s Premier League Under-17 Cup final with Spurs.

Currently sitting top of the table in the Under-18 Premier League North standings, City have an opportunity to claim a first piece of silverware of the season in tonight’s showpiece occasion which is being staged at Loughborough University.

It’s a game that CITY+ subscribers will be able to watch live with kick-off set for 7pm.

Comprised of virtually the same group of players who have done so well in the league, City have impressed in making our way to the Under-17 PL Cup final.

After recording three wins out of three in the group stages in the autumn, City then overcame Liverpool 5-2 in the quarter-final before beating Sunderland 2-1 in last month’s semi-final.

And McFarlane says every member of the squad is eager to try and play their part in helping City secure the trophy tonight.

“It’s a final, it’s against Spurs so it’s a really big occasion,” McFarlane said.

“It’s great when you have more than one competition to strive towards as it adds to the culture of this group and what we are doing every day.

“We’ve done well in this competition, so we have got the league where we are in a really good position for, and we’ve got the Cup final to play for as well.

“Even in this competition we’ve rotated the squad a lot, so again all the lads want to play in it.

“It’s really good as we have competition all over and that adds to training and what it is like in the real world for these lads.

“When they go into senior football they’re going to have to fight and compete for every minute that they get and it’s great for us in our coaching environment.”
