City Under-18s striker Matty Warhurst says both the Elite Development Squad and Under-18s will be looking to carry our UEFA Youth League success in Hoffenheim in to our domestic competitions.

Ben Wilkinson and Oliver Reiss are leading respective title charges as we enter the business end of the 2024/25 season.

Fighting for the Premier League 2, Under-18 Premier League North, FA Youth Cup and the UEFA Youth League, it’s an exciting time for our young boys in blue.

And after enjoying the European win in Germany, Warhurst – who scored City’s first in our 2-1 win over Hoffenheim – is looking forward to the challenge of continuing his form back in England.

“I’d say we went into the game confident and I was confident I was going to score,” began Warhurst.

“Or at least that was what I was telling myself and obviously to score first and help the team put us in a good place and helped us get the win.

“But now it’s also about coming back home and getting straight back into training and taking it one game at a time. The main thing is to keep winning games and improving.”

The 18-year-old has made an impressive 29 appearances in all competition so far this season.

And the number nine has scored 16 goals and assisted five in those games, adding to his tally of 24 goal contributions in the season prior.

And Warhurst credited his team-mates for his goalscoring tally, including our performance against Hoffenheim, and is now excited to take on our next Youth League opponents, AZ Alkmaar, next month.

“The team help each other, work with each other, communicate well with each other which helps me individually but also the whole team,” said Warhurst.

“Now we’re just buzzing for the quarter-final, we know it’s away and it’s going to be a tough game but I know that as a team we have the quality and mindset to go and win.”
