On a memorable and historic night for our Academy, Luke Mbete, CJ Egan-Riley, Finley Burns, Josh Wilson-Esbrand and Romeo Lavia all started Tuesday’s Carabao Cup third round tie with Wycombe while James McAtee came on as a substitute.
With fellow EDS graduate Cole Palmer scoring his first senior goal for City in our 6-1 victory, it helped cap a special and memorable evening at the Etihad.

And the 17-year-old said the sight of so many of his teammates being afforded an opportunity by Pep Guardiola had only served to inspire the rest of Brian Barry-Murphy‘s talented squad.
“It was fantastic to see them all playing (for the first team),” said the attacking winger.
“Josh obviously got an assist (for Riyad Mahrez’s goal) and I thought Josh, Luke, Romeo, CJ, Fin, and James all did great and it was brilliant that Cole scored too.
“It was also a great incentive for us all (to see them all playing) and now we just want to keep pushing ourselves and trying to improve.”

“I’m really enjoying my football. Last year I mainly played for the Under 18s and not too much at Under-23 level.
“But now I’m playing for the Elite Development Squad and getting minutes and really enjoying it.
“I’d say I’ve settled in well. The lads and the coaches have helped in that too so now it’s about looking to keep going.
“And I think there’s more to come.”
