Brian Barry-Murphy’s youngsters then rounded off a positive August in style at the weekend, securing an impressive 4-2 derby win away at Manchester United.
It was our third road trip from those first four games with the side facing the challenge not just of talented, determined opposition but also the welcome return of supporters after an 18-month absence from Academy fixtures following the COVID-19 pandemic.

And Bobb says having the presence of fans back at grounds has helped make such a positive start to the season all the more enjoyable.
“We were obviously very happy to beat United and it was great to play in front of fans even though most of them weren’t ours!” the attacking winger reflected.
“There was great energy. We went through some tough moments, but I think we did very well.
“It does feel a bit weird playing in front of fans again after so long but having them back at games makes it even better.
“For me personally, though I wasn’t involved as much with the team last season we’ve known each other a long time now.
“We’ve been building this relationship we’ve got for a couple of seasons. We know what we can do together.
“We’re getting stronger and stronger, I think. I feel that every game we are progressing.

“And days like Saturday winning away at United... that’s what you play the game for.”
With new head coach Brian Barry-Murphy now at the helm, our EDS youngsters are looking to build on last season’s fine achievements which saw us win a maiden PL2 title.
As well as the defence of the league crown, City are also seeking to progress in the Papa John’s Trophy and have the incentive of the UEFA Youth League to look forward too, with Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Club Brugge our group opponents.
For his part, Bobb says it’s a hugely exciting prospect with the players having hit the ground running under Barry-Murphy’s guidance.
“There are a lot of different things to play for this season – we’ve got the league obviously and the Papa John’s Trophy as well as the UEFA Youth League,” Bobb added.

“So I think we’re a team to look out for this year and that we can only go up from here.
“Brian has come in settled in quickly and everyone is loving it.
“We’re playing well together, and everyone is enjoying it.
“On a personal level, I feel free and confident and I just want to keep working hard.”
