City won the Under-17 Premier League Cup thanks to a comprehensive 6-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Loughborough University.

Dan Ogwuru bagged our opener before Carlos Borges doubled our advantage just a few minutes later, seeing us go into the half-time break with a comfortable lead.

Josh Adam scored our third just one minute into the second-half, before Will Dickson added a fourth off the bench to put the result beyond doubt.

But we weren’t finished there as Adam and Dickson added two late goals to round off a dominant display from Ben Wilkinson‘s side and see the Academy lift our first piece of silverware this season.

WHAT HAPPENED

City started well, leaving the opposition chasing shadows and patiently passed around the back in search of a route through the Spurs defence.

Our early chances came via the right-wing, with some lovely link-up between Luca Barrington and Rico Lewis resulting into some promising crosses put into the box, unfortunately Carlos Borges couldn’t make contact to divert them goal-wards.

A big chance fell to Tottenham against the run of play when Rio Kyerematen rounded George Murray-Jones, but the Spurs attacker couldn’t get his resulting shot on target, letting us off the hook.

And that miss would prove crucial, as just a couple of minutes later, Ogwuru was played in by Borges, and the striker produced a neat left-footed finish into the bottom corner to give us the lead.

Then, only five minutes later, Borges turned from provider to scorer, as he got onto the end of a fizzing cross from Luca Barrington, sliding in at the back post to double our advantage.

In typical City fashion, we kept pushing forward in search of more, and it easily could have been had the Spurs defence not snuffed out a point-blank shot from Barrington and long-range efforts from Mo Susoho and Ogwuru.

Just before the end of the half, we had to call on Murray-Jones to produce a great save to keep out Donley, who jumped highest in a last minute corner, seeing us keep our two-goal lead at the break.

Ben Wilkinson would’ve been looking to start the second half in similar fashion, and his players delivered just that as Barrington’s mazy run found Adam who cooly finished into the bottom right corner, securing our third goal with just one-minute of the second half played.

But just like the first half, City were hungry for more and we duly grabbed our fourth as, just two minutes after coming off the bench, Dickson was found after a lovely lay-off from Lewis and duly fired the ball into the back of the net to secure our fourth.

Adam would grab his second, and our fifth with ten minutes to play, rolling the ball home after Dickson’s effort struck the woodwork, before the latter added our sixth with an audacious chip over the keeper, wrapping up a dominant showing and seeing the Academy lift our first silverware of the season.

HOW WE LINED UP

Ben Wilkinson selected George Murray-Jones for goalkeeping duties, whilst Rico Lewis captained the side from right-back, alongside Max Alleyne, Lakyle Samuel and Matty Whittingham in defence.

Mo Susoho took up the defensive midfield role, with Josh Adam and Kian Breckin tasked with providing the link to the forward line in the more attacking roles.

Dan Ogwuru was named up top, and he was flanked by Carlos Borges on the left and Luca Barrington on the right.
