Patrick Vieira’s under-19s will be on the brink of qualification for the knockout rounds of the UEFA Youth League if they can defeat CSKA Moscow on Tuesday.

City’s youngsters have a perfect record following wins over Bayern and AS Roma as they once again impress in the second year of the competition.

It wasn’t all plain sailing, however, as they had to come from behind to see off Roma 2-1 at Ewen Fields last time out on 30 September.

After a goalless first half, the visitors took the lead early in the second period, but two goals in less than 10 minutes from French duo Olivier Ntcham and Thierry Ambrose secured the three points for the hosts and catapulted them straight to the top of Group E.

Here’s the state of play going into Match Day Three.

Vieira was understandably delighted with the battling qualities his side showcased in that victory over Roma.

“More than the win I’m really pleased with the way we played,” he said.

“The boys were fantastic because it’s not easy to go 1-0 down like that and win 2-1. I think today we showed good character, good spirit, our together-ness. I was really pleased with the win.

“We expected [them to frustrate us]. We knew they were going to be a team well organised, it would be really difficult for us to play our normal game.

“We got really frustrated at times but in the end when we had our back against the wall I think the team responded really well and moved the ball a bit more quickly and I think our team spirit was fantastic today.”

Of course City took on CSKA last season in this tournament and they came away from Russia with a 1-1 draw.

We’ll have live Twitter updates on our official account, as well as a match report and highlights after the game.

Kick-off is at 10:30am (BST).
