Patrick Vieira’s side share the first-team’s fate in drawing Bayern Munich and CSKA Moscow for the second consecutive year, as well as AS Roma.
City reached the quarter-finals of the competition in its inaugural year, defeating Atletico Madrid in the second round away from home before their unfortunate defeat to Benfica at Hyde in the last eight.
Munich’s Grünwalder Stadion will host the Group E clash which kicks off five hours before the first team match across the city.
Last year, City needed a point from their final group game to ensure qualification to the knockout rounds and they got it, following a gritty goalless stalemate in Germany.
Highlights
Vieira’s men came up against a team much-improved from their 6-0 defeat in the reverse fixture, but hung on to book their date with Atletico.
Many of the players who so caught the eye in last year’s campaign are still eligible for the tournament, including Brandon Barker, Pablo Maffeo, Ashley Smith-Brown, Angus Gunn, Jack Byrne, Mathias Bossaerts and Kean Bryan.
