Patrick Vieira’s City u19s return to UEFA Youth League action at Hyde on Tuesday afternoon, aiming to put themselves in the box seat for Group E top spot.

The team enjoyed a dream start to their campaign on match day one in Munich as they ran out 4-1 winners over Bayern.

However, AS Roma also got off to a perfect start with their 3-1 victory over CSKA Moscow, meaning the two matches against the Italians could be pivotal in deciding who advances to the knockout rounds.

“It will be a really interesting game as it’s the first time we’ve faced an Italian side in this competition and it’s going to be a difficult test,” Vieira told mcfc.co.uk.

“I’m really looking forward to it as they have some really interesting players and it should be good game.

“We had our first game against Bayern where the boys played really well and I think that the fans should make the effort to come and support them because they deserve it.

“They are proud to play for City and they’re doing really well. We have some young talented players, like Pozo, who I think everyone enjoyed watching last week.

“I would love to see plenty of fans at Hyde on Tuesday to support our under-19s.”

Bayern u19s v City u19s: Match highlights

City are likely to be boosted by the return of Jose Angel Pozo after his goalscoring exploits for the first-team against Sheffield Wednesday last week.

The Spanish youth international was also on the scoresheet against Bayern last time out and Vieira has revealed his pride at the 18-year old’s rise to prominence.

“I was really pleased for Jose - I think he’s opened the door for some of our boys,” Patrick declared.

“When a boy gets called up and does well, it’s really important. It shows the manager that we have good players at our football club.

“He did very well for himself and he did very well for us too.”

Many of the players involved in City Elite Development Squad’s thrilling 4-2 victory over Liverpool on Thursday night are likely to be involved.

City bested last season’s Barclays u21 Premier League play-off finalists with a stunning display of attacking football at Liverpool’s Kirkby training base.

“We played some really good football, we created so many chances and we scored four goals,” Vieira said.

“We showed togetherness and I was quite confident at all times in the game as the team is showing character in difficult moments which is really important.”
