City’s UEFA Youth League captain Rodney Kongolo believes it’s time for his teammates to prove they are better than their Barcelona counterparts in Tuesday’s Group C clash.

Simon Davies’ side were in control for much of the first instalment of the double header two weeks ago but a late Carles Perez goal won it for Barcelona.

City missed several crucial chances in that match and Kongolo knows they will have to be more clinical if they are to beat their illustrious opponents.

He said: “We were so frustrated at the end of the game because we knew we played well but we just couldn’t put away our chances.

“We were happy with how we played but we know we need to finish those chances to beat teams like Barcelona.

“We know what we can do and we know how to hurt them. I think in the last game we proved we are a better team and now if we can just take our chances we should beat them here.”

City’s Premier League 2 side went top of the table on Friday night with a 1-0 victory over title rivals Liverpool.

In terms of his own form, Kongolo is just focused on providing a great example for his teammates when he steps out on to the pitch.

“We have a very young group, we work hard and try to stay true to the way we play.

“I play with as much energy as possible and I’m always looking to make a run. If I see the chance I will go for it because that’s the freedom we have.

“You have to become the second striker because one guy in the box makes it easy for the other team to defend against. That’s why I like to make those runs into the box.”
