The Under-23s bounced back in the second half at the Etihad to draw level with the visiting Reds.
After securing dramatic 6-5 and 6-4 wins over Arsenal and West Ham in recent weeks, the low-scoring result is somewhat of a relief for the new EDS boss.
“There might be a few disappointed people at the Etihad as it was like a normal game of football!” Harsley told ManCity.com after the match. “It’s been a crazy first couple of games and our match against Liverpool was more of a standard game of football and a different test for the lads.
“It was a less exciting and less open game but it was another test that’s great for the squad to experience.
“We looked a bit tired at times, and in the first half it looked like we were trying to get our legs going. When Liverpool scored we started to come into the game more and we scored a really pleasing goal – which is something we’ve been working on. It was a good game.”
After three competitive matches Harsley has settled in well at the City Football Academy, but the boss still eyes a number of improvements.
“I’ve settled in now and I think we all know with pre-season and the World Cup, the players were all over the place so we have only really been together for three weeks or so,” Paul added.
“It’s still very early. We are really pleased with how it’s going, there’s loads still to work on – as you’d expect – but we are up for the challenge.”
Next up, the Blues travel to Shrewsbury Town in the Checkatrade Trophy, kick-off at 7pm (BST).
