The midfielder has spent the summer recovering from the broken foot he sustained whilst on duty for England during the Under-17 Euro tournament in May.
The youngster subsequently underwent surgery before then starting on his recovery and rehabilitation.
But with the new Premier League 2 and Under-18 campaigns getting underway last weekend, the 16-year-old says he is now nearing his own comeback.

“It has been tough. When it first happened, it was a long process what with the operation then having to keep my foot up for a while as it was in plaster after the operation,” Tommy revealed.
“I broke my fifth metatarsal, so I had to have an operation straight away and then I was in a cast for two to three weeks, so had to keep my foot up all the time.
“It was tough as it’s never happened before, so I had to get used to that. But I am back walking now and getting closer.
“Obviously, I wanted to finish off the tournament, but it happened towards the end of the season, so it wasn’t the worst time and, fortunately, I haven’t missed too much football.
“I’ve got a good team around me and they have really helped me too.
“There’s no rush at all and I want to make sure that everything is right.”
Once he does return to action, Doyle is aiming to build on the excellent individual campaign he enjoyed in 2017/18.
Tommy was a key player in Gareth Taylor’s Under-18s side throughout the season but he also made his debut for the Elite Development Squad and featured for City’s Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League competition.
And with several of City’s Academy starlets having been invited to train with the Club’s first team squad, both last season and during this summer’s pre-season tour to America, Tommy is also hoping to catch the eye of the first team coaching staff.
“Once I get back the aim is just to try and play as much as I can and then to see if I can get around the first team and see what happens,” Tommy added.
“It was great to see so many of the lads be part of the pre-season tour squad in America. Hopefully if I get the chance I can show I can do well too so hopefully I can get that chance this season.
“It’s a long season and hopefully we can win a few trophies along the way.”
