It ended goalless at Holmes Park, but it was an end to end encounter in which City came up against a high energy, physical side who have not lost in the league since September.
Pressing the Blues all over the pitch in a bid to disrupt their rhythm, Davies’ team, with 16-year-old Nabil Touaizi and 17-year-old Ian Carlo Poveda in the starting line-up, embraced the challenge.
“We keep giving these young boys opportunity and they never fail to respond,” said the manager.
“The way they stuck together, with corners coming in and throw-ins that reached the back post; it was a really encouraging performance.
“They didn’t buckle. They showed real character on top of the technical ability that we know we’ve got coming through the Academy.”
The point sees City move up to seventh in the Premier League 2, while the Foxes remain second.
For Davies, it’s no surprise to see the Midlands outfit competing near the league’s summit and the quality of the opposition was another reason to be satisfied with his side’s display.
City could quite easily have won this game.
Lorenzo Gonzalez and Nabil Touaizi might be frustrated not to have broken the deadlock, while Matt Smith had a goal ruled out for offside.
But despite failing to secure all three points, it’s a performance that left Davies proud.
“The players were excellent and I couldn’t be more pleased,” he added.
“We came up against a tough press and an aggressive side and you can see why they’re second in the league.
“They’re well set up, they’re very direct and they will cause teams problems.
“We’ve scored a goal which we’ve watched back and looks as if it was on side so we could have got the three points, but for me it’s more about the performance.
“I’m really proud of that.”
