READ: Report | City 4-1 Shakhtar
The 17-year-old netted a stunning strike and a penalty over Shakhtar Donetsk to help City secure their first win in the competition this season.
After trailing 1-0 to Shakhtar at the break, a second half comeback with goals from Richards, Lorenzo Gonzalez and Benjamin Garre kept hopes of qualification alive.
Richards is adamant that the Blues will come back after the international break ready and raring to go.
“It was a good win, and we needed it,” the teenager said after the match. “We were really happy with that.
“At 1-0 we thought it was going to be a really tough game but we all stuck together and got the win in the end.
“Qualification is still on, it’s a tough task but never say never. We are all going to work hard after the international break and get back into training and keep pushing on.”
Richards has become a regular feature in Paul Harsley’s squad this season across all competitions, and it’s a welcome change from last year after the midfielder sustained a long-term knee injury which saw him sidelined for a majority of the 2017/18 season.
The City starlet is delighted to be back making and impact in the squad and explained how he didn’t feel himself during his recovery.
“It was a slow start [coming back from injury], not playing and not being the Taylor that I was before was hard,” Richards stated. “Right now I feel like I’m working a lot harder and things are coming off now which weren’t at the start of the season so I’ll see where it takes me.
“It was first big injury and is was quite hard to take.
“Watching other people doing well and feeling like you could push on if you were fit was difficult, but it happens in the game and my family and teammates were there to help me. Now I just want to keep working hard for the team.”
