Striker Gonzalez marked his first appearance of the season against the Rams last weekend by opening the scoring and playing his part in a crucial 3-2 Premier League 2 victory.
And the 18-year-old followed that up by finding the target once again in Tuesday’s excellent 4-1 Checkatrade Trophy triumph at Gresty Road.
Now the EDS squad seek to round off an excellent week this Saturday when they travel to Swansea City where Gonzalez knows another three points could potentially lift the young Blues up to the top of the table.
“In the league it is every close and there are very few points separating a lot of sides,” said Lorenzo.

“We knew that was the situation going into the Derby game and it was so important to get the win which we achieved.
“I think that win will help a long way and that we can go in a positive way as we saw at Crewe in the Checkatrade Trophy.
“Now we know that we are in a good position and we want to keep that going at Swansea.
“But we need to be focused as we have a lot of games and we need to try and do our best to develop ourselves and to do our best for the club.”
After a fine start to the season, with the side scoring 12 goals in their opening two fixtures, the EDS side’s progress was checked with a raft of injuries biting deep into the squad.
But having got back to winning ways with that victory over a Derby side that fielded several players with first-team experience, Gonzalez believes it augurs well looking to the rest of the campaign.
And having marked his own return to action with successive goals, Lorenzo is eager to carry on playing his part in the squad’s progress.
“We showed a good reaction against Derby after a couple of games that we lost,” he added. “The team showed great character against an older team.

“It was a bit difficult for the team. We had seen we had played better than other teams but didn’t score the goals and we had lost some games.
“We have had a lot of injuries which we haven’t been able to do anything about.
“But we are Manchester City and we need to win games and we need to represent the club and to win.
“So, I was really happy to have got the goal to help the team win the game.
“I haven’t played for a while and the Derby game was my first match back, so I feel fit and it was good to score and help the team win.”
