City starlet Jayden Braaf revealed he models his game on first-team stars Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane.

The young winger starred in Wednesday’s UEFA Youth League Group C opener against Shakhtar Donetsk, involved in all three goals to hand his side all three points.

Braaf was also unfortunate not to write his own name onto the scoresheet too, striking the crossbar in the second half, but the teenager believes his influential display marks a sign of things to come.

“I’m so happy to win this game,” he reflected. “It was a good game – we played well.

“It was one of my best games and I’m happy I gave two assists.

“The coach told the team before the game: ‘Play to Jayden and let him go.’

“I’m good on one-v-ones and I like the responsibility.

“It’s the beginning!”

Having missed much of the 2018/19 campaign through injury, Braaf asserted his woes are behind him.

The 17-year-old also revealed he has learned a lot from fellow wingers Sane and Sterling, having trained alongside the first-team to gain further valuable experience.

“It feels so good to be back now,” he admitted. “I’m working hard. I need to keep going.

“The injury was very bad and I missed the Euros as well. I was working hard to be back and I’m back now.

“I came to City because they said I have a chance to make my first-team debut if I work hard.

“I’ve trained with the first-team and it was good to play with the big players.

“I learned to play simple but play quicker. You can learn from them. I learned a lot from Sterling and Sane. I’m happy they play for this Club.

“I prefer to play on the left wing but I can play both.”

City were left frustrated in last season’s UEFA Youth League campaign, missing out on progression to the knock-out stages.

The previous year, the young Blues had reached the semi-finals but were edged out in a nine-goal thriller by eventual winners Barcelona.

Asked how far he feels his side can go this term, Braaf believes City have what it takes to emulate the 2017/18 achievement.

“We’re a good team,” he added. “If we can play like this in every game, we can go far in the competition.”
