The Reserves enjoyed a resounding 5-1 win over Stockport County at Carrington this afternoon in their opening Manchester Senior Cup match.

The game, originally scheduled as a training-ground friendly, was watched by manager Mark Hughes among others and Glyn Hodges’ youngsters responded with a convincing performance.

Adam Clayton put City ahead on five minutes and Ben Mee doubled the lead after ten with a set-piece header before Jack Redshaw cut in from the left to score a third after 28 minutes.

Alex Nimely went through the middle to lift one over the Stockport keeper after 32 minutes and James Poole completed the Blues’ haul from 12 yards after 84 minutes. County scored two minutes from time. Watch the highlights here

Hodges said: “We took the opportunity to switch a few of the lads around different positions to give them a better understanding, which will help if and when injuries force us to reshuffle.”

City’s next tie in their Senior Cup group is against Oldham on November 17 at the Regional Arena.
