Andy Welsh’s side take on Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium (kick-off 6.30pm) in the final of the MSC – a trophy the club has only won on three occasions in 1901, 2005 and 2007.
This season’s cup trail began back in October with a 5-1 win over Stockport County and Oldham were then beaten 4-2 on spot-kicks a month later. A 3-0 win over Bury in December preceded the Blues’ only loss in the competition – to Bolton – on penalties.
However, City won their place in the final after an impressive 2-0 win over reserve league champions Manchester United at Altrincham’s Moss Lane a fortnight ago.
With the Blues’ second string now confirmed as runners-up in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North this season and Wanderers finishing bottom, the visitors will start the game as favourites with the livewire front pairing of Alex Nimely and Robbie Mak likely to lead the attack.
The Blues also have won both of the league meetings against Bolton this term with a 2-0 victory on home turf followed by a 3-1 win at Leyland.
As well as aiming to win the Senior Cup, City will also want to complete an entire campaign on the road undefeated having won seven and drawn four of their 11 games away so far.
