Spanish playmaker Joan Angel Roman opened the scoring coolly from the penalty spot after Tevez was tripped in the area on seven minutes.
Ten minutes later, some further quick-thinking by the impressive Roman as his swiftly taken corner wrong-footed The Shrimps defence to allow EDS skipper Reece Wabara time to lash home a fine strike to double the visitors’ advantage.
The first of several chances for Tevez was thwarted by Chris Kettings in the Morecambe goal who denied the Argentine’s firm headed effort with an athletic save, although there is little he could have done to deny the City striker his goal when it did come.
Running on to a through-ball, Tevez’s cheeky chip from the edge of the box beat the stranded Kettings who could only watch as the ball nestled into his goal for the third time in thirty minutes.
Morecambe rallied and pulled a goal back almost instantly as Craig Curran netted from close range after the Blues failed to deal with a set piece.
Two more good chances fell Tevez’s way before the striker became provider on 54 minutes as his well-weighted pass was neatly converted by Omar Elabdellaoui to restore the three-goal cushion.
Following a notable showing that could see him in contention for a first team start against Sunderland on Saturday, Tevez received a warm reception from the 300+ crowd inside the Globe Arena, making way for Academy goal-machine Jordi Hiwula on 71 minutes.
City’s superior goal difference at the top of Group A received another shot in the arm as Roman stretched his legs down the right and curled a cunning effort past the despairing Kettings for the Blues’ fifth with fifteen minutes remaining.
The largely under-worked Eirik Johansen was then called into action with two good saves in quick succession including tipping round the post from Sean Breen before Morecambe substitute James Short saw his effort strike the bar.
There was still time for Roman to complete a fine hat trick and conclude the scoring with his own crafty lob.
The win sees City EDS qualify for the knock-out stages of the Central League Cup on goal difference at the top of Group A with Stoke City lying in wait for a semi final showdown.
