Two goals from the Swedish forward levelled things up for the Blues after going 2-0 down initially, but an unfortunate George Evans own goal six minutes from time saw Attilio Lombardo’s side leave Colney Training Centre empty handed.
City were looking for their first win in three league games, having suffered their first loss of 2013 to Reading at the start of the month and drawing against Newcastle last time out.
A Marcos Lopes penalty rescued a point on Tyneside but it meant that today’s opponents leapfrogged the Blues into second in National Group 2.
There were just two changes from the XI that started against Newcastle.
Guidetti returned to the starting line up to join Lopes, fresh from his appearance on the subs bench for the first team on Saturday, and Denis Suarez as part of an exciting and powerful front three. Devante Cole dropped to the bench to make way, while Mathias Bossaerts took the place of the injured Kieran Kennedy.
Meanwhile Norwich fielded a strong team which included first team regulars Luciano Becchio and Ryan Bennett.
The game was slow to get going, with few chances for either side in the opening ten minutes. The first real opportunity fell to City, when Marcos Lopes blazed over the bar after finding some space on the edge of the box.
But it was the hosts who took the lead just three minutes later when Jacob Murphy slid the ball past Ian Lawlor after a good run. The youngster doubled Norwich’s lead ten minutes before half time when he evaded three defenders before scoring off the post.
It was beginning to look like it would be a long way back for the Blues at half time, but in the last minute of the first period Guidetti arrived at the back post to poke home a low corner and ignite comeback hopes.
Fired up after the break, the Blues began brightly and Suarez forced a good save from the Norwich keeper.
Ten minutes later, Guidetti grabbed his second when his deflected shot sailed into the corner of the net to level the scores.
Both teams headed forward in search of the winner. Suarez had a strong shot blocked while George Francomb fired wide for the home side after taking on the City defence.
A close-fought encounter looked to be heading for a draw, but luck deserted the young Blues after their brave fightback when George Evans turned the ball into his own net in the 84th minute.
Lombardo’s men will be encouraged by their spirited fightback and will be looking to turn that into three points in the next fixture, at home to Crystal Palace on Tuesday 29 March.
