City were beaten 2-1 by West Ham United Under 23s, a result that leaves the Blues on nine points in Premier League 2.

West Ham secured their fifth victory of the campaign so far to see them move up to third place in the table while City are currently in seventh position.

What happened

Simon Davies’ side initially took the lead after Taylor Richards’ goal, but the Hammers fought back and secured two courtesy of Nathan Holland and Antonio Martinez.

City opened up the scoresheet when Richards netted the first goal of the game after just 19 minutes of play at the Chigwell Construction Stadium in Dagenham, but the Hammers responded quickly.

10 minutes after City’s opening goal, Liam Manning’s side equalised as Holland’s strike took the two teams level at half-time.

In the second half Davies made three substitutions but his side were unable to regain their earlier lead.

Benjamin Garre was the first to be substituted as Javiero Dilrosun took his place.

Just a few minutes later skipper Lukas Nmecha made way for Luke Bolton’s return, while Lorenzo Gonzalez was brought on for City goalscorer, Richards.

The Hammers sealed the fate of the game in the 83rd minute as Martinez fired home the final goal to secure their fifth win of the Premier League 2 campaign.
