Five goals, a clean sheet and three points.
The season ended in victory for Simon Davies’ thanks to goals from Brahim Diaz and Luke Bolton, a Lukas Nmecha brace either side of the break and a strike in injury time from Phil Foden.
What happened
The clash marked the first game back since the Uefa Youth League semi-final for a majority of the squad, and the academy side showed no signs of taking their foot off the gas.
It took 19 minutes for City to take the lead at the Lamex Stadium as the older Nmecha brother secured his tenth Premier League 2 goal of the season – making him City’s top scorer in the competition, while Foden returned to EDS action to provide the assist to the skipper.
Fans didn’t have to wait long for City’s next goal as Diaz was on hand to double our lead on the half hour mark with help from Bolton.
City stood strong before the break but the Blues were eager to add more.
Once back on the pitch it took just six minutes for City to add a third to the goal tally.
First half goalscorer, Diaz, provided his eighth assist of the domestic campaign to return the earlier favour to Bolton who fired a low strike past Whiteman.
As the game drew to a close Nmecha struck again. The EDS captain beat the Spurs ‘keeper to slot the ball into an empty net just two minutes before the final whistle – which looked like the final goal of the game – surely? Wrong.
Foden was on hand to add extra gloss to the scoreline a minute into injury-time to nicely round off a dominant evening at the Lamex Stadium.
The five goals ensured that City moved up two places in the table to finish in sixth position in the Premier League 2 standings on 30 points.
