A goal in each half from the Spaniard was enough to see off Martin Jol’s side in a game City in which rarely had to shift out of first gear.
“We know how important David is whether he’s scoring goals or not scoring goals but I’m pleased he’s got himself a couple today,” said Platt.
“His performances have deserved more goals than he’s got this season, that’s for sure but he’s got a couple today and could have had three.”
Platt admits he thought the Blues might have sewn the points up sooner after taking the lead so early in the game, but was satisfied a fifth successive win in all competitions.
“When you score after 90 seconds you think that will settle the side and you won’t have to try and open up the opposition defence over a period of time, but we didn’t really go full throttle in the first half,” he said.
We had a lot of possession but didn’t create many chances, though we were much better after the break and had two or three really good chances to have put the game to bed earlier than we actually did

“We defended well and restricted Fulham to very few chances, even when we were only 1-0 up, but you are always in danger of conceding with just a one-goal lead so it was pleasing to see the second goal go in when it did.”
Platt was also pleased with the work-rate of the team, especially his midfielders and Carlos Tevez, adding: “Carlos worked very hard but that’s what he does. There was also plenty of others who worked hard with industry from James Milner, Gareth Barry and Javi Garcia – the whole team worked really hard, which is important.
“As for Pablo, he’s gone over on his ankle and it’s too early to say but I’d be surprised if he wasn’t fit for Stoke next week. We haven’t a game for seven days so he has time to recover but we’ll know more in the morning.
“It was good to have Sergio back. It’s only two weeks since he injured himself and he looked sharp when he came on – he’s got 15 minutes under his belt and another week of training and he’ll be sharper again plus the chances of a reoccurrence of the injury will start to recede – we’re pleased because two weeks is a great recovery time for the sort of injury he had.”
