Roberto Mancini’s men booked their ticket to Wembley with Saturday’s 5-0 win over Barnsley.
Edgar Davids and Graeme Le Saux made the draw at Wembley immediately after Manchester United’s 2-2 draw Chelsea which rules out the prospect of an all-Manchester FA Cup final.
If United do make it through to the semi-final, it will mean that there will be two Manchester derbies in the space of a week, with the teams meeting at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Monday 8 April and contesting a Wembley last-four clash days later.
Of course, City last met Manchester United at this stage of the FA Cup in 2011 when Yaya Toure’s 52nd minute strike sent the Blues on to FA Cup glory.
In their last FA Cup encounter, United ended City’s interest in the competition last season with a 3-2 third round win after Vincent Kompany’s controversial sending off.
If United see off Chelsea, it would be the third all-Manchester FA Cup semi-final with the first arriving back in 1926, which City won 3-0 at Bramall Lane.
City have met their neighbours on nine occasions in FA Cup ties, winning three and losing six.
City haven’t met Chelsea in the FA Cup in 42 years, with the last meeting coming at Stamford Bridge in 1971, ending in a 3-0 win for the away side.
It would be the fourth match between the teams this season and a repeat of the FA Community Shield at Villa Park in August which City won 3-2.
There is currently no date confirmed for the replay between Chelsea and United at Stamford Bridge but we’ll let you know who the Blues will face as soon we know.
Wigan will play Blackburn Rovers or Millwall in the other semi-final.
Both ties will take place on the weekend of the 13/14 April and ticket details will be released in due course.
