Roy Paul
The Welsh half-back signed for Swansea in 1939, but his career was soon to be interrupted by the Second World War, during which he was a physical training instructor.
After the war, Paul made his league debut and spent four years playing first team football for the Swans, winning the third Division South championship in 1948-49.
In 1950, the Welshman joined a City side that had just been relegated to the second division. He made his debut during a 4-2 victory over Preston North End on the first day of the 1950-51 season.
Paul went on to spend seven years as team captain, leading the club to successive FA Cup finals in 1995 and 1996, losing the first and winning the second.
John Bond
Essex-born John Bond took over as Blues boss from Malcolm Allison in 1980, and ended his first season at the club with a trip to Wembley for the FA Cup final, which City eventually lost 3-2 to Spurs.
In the league, the former right-back led City to successive mid-table positions, but resigned halfway through the 1982-83 campaign with the Blues sitting in ninth.
After a brief spell at Burnley, he arrived at Swansea in December 1984 with a clear mission – to prevent relegation.
The Swans ended the season one place clear of the drop zone, but following a poor start the following year Bond left in December.
Tommy Hutchison
Famous for scoring at both ends in the 1981 FA Cup Final, Tommy Hutchison was the first signing at Maine Road for City boss, and fellow Swansea connection, John Bond.
Over two years with the Blues, the Scottish international made 46 appearances, grabbing four goals.
The midfielder made Swansea his last stop of a league career which spanned over 1000 total appearances, signing in 1985 and staying six years.
Hutchison also made his European debut with the Swans – appearing in the European Cup Winners’ Cup in September 1989 at the age of 41.
Terry Phelan
After graduating from the Leeds United youth system, the Manchester born left-back spent a brief spell with Swansea during the 1986-87 season.
After the team finished bottom of the Third Division, the Irish international left The Vetch to join top-flight Wimbledon.
After five years with the Crazy Gang, winning the FA Cup, Phelan moved back to his hometown to join City for £2.5 million at the start of the 1992-3 season, equalling the British record transfer fee for a defender as well as equalling the club’s record fee.
He made 122 appearances for the Blues over three and a half seasons before moving to Chelsea in 1995.
Brian Murphy
The Irish goalkeeper faced tough competition for the No.1 jersey during his time at City with David Seaman, Nicky Weaver and Carlo Nash all fighting for the spot.
However, Murphy did succeed on making the first team bench on a number of occasions in the old First Division and the Premiership during his four seasons with the club.
After spending loan spells at Oldham and Peterborough, Swansea manager Brian Flynn signed him for Swansea on a free transfer.
Murphy made 13 appearances for the club during the 2003-04 season.
