UEFA Cup/European Cup/Champions League history: European Champion Club’s Cup winners 1984, and UEFA Cup winners in 1991. Have reached the quarter finals of the Champions League twice in the past 10 years.

Qualification record: The Giallorossi qualified automatically for this season’s Champions League, finishing as Serie A’s runners up to Juventus in the last campaign.

This ends a two-season absence for Roma in Europe.

Recent form: The new Serie A season is yet to get under way, though Roma have been inconsistent in pre-season, with wins over Real Madrid and AEK Athens, as well as defeats to Inter and Manchester United.

City links: The two sides have never met in a competitive fixture.

However, a few notable players to have appeared for both sides. These include Brazilian right-back Maicon and Chilean David Pizzaro, who had a short stint on loan at City in 2011/12.

Sven-Goran Eriksson is a household name for both clubs, as he has had spells managing the two sides.

Finally former City left-back Herbert Burgess in the early 1900’s is another link, having spent time as Roma manager between 1930 and 1932.
