In the battle between the two City stars, Dzeko opened the scoring after 28 minutes with a low left-foot shot inside the box to give Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois no chance and send the Bosnian fans inside the Stadion Bilino Polje, Zenica.
Dzeko went close again three minutes later but the Red Devils responded strongly and were unlucky not to go in at the break level as the two Group B heavyweights slugged it out.
It took Belgium just six minutes of the second period to level the scores when Radja Nainggolan struck a shot from the edge of the box to make it 1-1.
Dzeko went close again on 69 minutes, firing in a shot that was eventually scrambled clear as both teams searched for the winning goal and Kompany was booked late on, but the game ended honours even and left the Bosnians without a win in their opening three group matches.
