Yaya Toure says City thoroughly deserved the 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park.

The Blues scored twice in the last ten minutes to secure the points, and Yaya believes anything other than three points for the champions would have been a travesty.

“I think today was a great three points because Aston Villa are a very good side and it was difficult for us in the first half, but we kept at it and got our rewards near the end,” he said.

“Villa defended really well, but we were the dominant team, particularly towards the end of the first period. We needed a positive result after the midweek draw against Roma and I think we were excellent at times today.”

As for his own performance, Yaya said: “I always try to do my best for the team, but some games aren’t easy because every team tries very hard against us and makes it as difficult as they can by defending deep. We always try to score and try to win games so we ended up with the win our play merited overall.

“I know there has been criticism of me but I always try my hardest and I will continue to do that and keep going. It was nice to score but it doesn’t matter whether it is me, Aguero, Dzeko or Jovetic so long as we get the result we need.

“Our aim is to win the title again and we know that Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal will all be strong again this season so it won’t be easy but we will be trying our hardest to retain the title.”
