That goal, scored from an improbable angle, was just the cherry on top of three excellent games where the Serbian international full-back has provided lung-busting coverage of the left flank.
In tandem with David Silva and new boy Kolarov has made a devastating contribution and Aleks is hoping that this good form continues into Saturday’s game against newly-promoted Watford.
“I think we have been working very well at the start of the season,” Kolarov reflected.
“Raheem and David are great players and for me it is easy to work with them.
“The opponents are focused on marking them so when I go forward I have space to attack.
“We have always done well in attack and scoring goals but now we’re defending very well again also.
“We are not allowing our opponents to have possession because when we have the ball we know we have the quality - we know that when we have more possession, we have more quality than other teams.”
However good City have been, the first three games will quickly be forgotten if the hosts fail to take all three points on Saturday afternoon.
Aleks warns that the Hornets will provide a stern test of his side’s title credentials.
“I think they will come to our stadium with the idea not to lose,” Kolarov predicted.
“From our side it will be very difficult because we have won three games and now maybe everyone is thinking we will play against them 100%.
“They like to play football and have signed a lot of new players so it will be a very difficult game for us, but if we won against Chelsea at home then we have to beat Watford.”
Since the 4-2 defeat to Manchester United in April, City have won nine consecutive Premier League games and are one victory away from setting an all-time Club record.
Kolarov isn’t interested in records but does admit that the defeat in the last Manchester derby may have been an important moment for the squad.
“It is good always when you are winning but the record is not the title so it isn’t important how many wins you have in a row, it’s important to win the title in May,” he said.
“The defeat at Old Trafford was our lowest point of the season and after that we won nine games in a row.
“It is difficult when we lose a game against United but maybe we found some good things in that game. From there we started to play better and better and we are now here in the new season with three wins in three games.”
