PSV
The Dutch champions are one of the competition’s surprise packages after they squeezed through Group B at Manchester United’s expense. Phillip Cocu’s side dumped Louis van Gaal’s side out to qualify alongside Wolfsburg thanks to a 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow on Match Day Six.

Benfica
Benfica qualified from Group C which was won by Atletico on the final Match Day. The Portuguese champions overcame Astana and Galatasaray to make the knockout rounds, recording 10 points from their six games.

AS Roma
Roma progressed to the Last 16 on the final Match Day, finishing as runners-up to FC Barcelona at the expense of BATE Borisov and Bayer Leverkusen.

Dynamo Kiev
FC Porto and Maccabi Tel Aviv were both seen off as Dynamo Kiev reached the Last 16 for the first time since the late 1990s. Ex-Spurs striker Sergey Rebrov guided the Ukrainian side through along with Chelsea from Group G.

Previous meetings: Twice (Europa League 2010/11) Dynamo Kiev dumped City out of the Europa League in March 2011 thanks to a 2-1 aggregate win. City won the home leg 1-0 thanks to Aleksandar Kolarov’s goal but that wasn’t enough to overturn the 2-0 first-leg deficit.

KAA Gent
Belgian league champions KAA Gent, nicknamed The Buffalos, made it through Champions League Group H, knocking out Valencia and Lyon. This is their first appearance in the tournament phase of the competition but they have plenty of continental calibre as they’ve played 40 games in the Europa League. They won three straight games to claim an unlikely place in the knockout stages - one of the real stories of the Champions League so far.
