The France international believes it would be easy to be distracted by the opportunity to close the gap on leaders Chelsea to two points when all that really matters is making sure the Blues return from Anfield with thee points.
“We just have focus on ourselves because we have to perform against Liverpool before we can start thinking about closing the gap on Chelsea,” said Sagna.
“I remember last season’s game – I was watching it on TV and it was a fantastic match and we were just unlucky on the day.
It will be a very hard game, but we have the quality to go there and get the result to win there but we’ll need to be at our very best and hopefully we can bounce back from the Barcelona defeat
...Bacary Sagna...
Sagna says focus is the key with Liverpool having so many talented attacking players all capable of producing something out of nothing.
“They have great players and when you play a team like Liverpool, you know you are in for a difficult match – we will have to be tight and not give them any space because they have players who can hurt you if allow them to play,” he said.
“We want to dictate the game and will press higher up the pitch. Playing away gives us more space than we have at home where teams come and defend in and around their own box so that will suit us, too.
“Their home form hasn’t been as good as it was last season, but that means nothing for this game. They have been in good form lately and, as I say, we’ll need to be at our best.
“I’ve had good experiences with Arsenal at Anfield but I’m looking forward to going there and winning with City. The atmosphere will be great and if we want to win the title, this is the type of game we have to win.”
