Jose Angel Pozo is hoping for a first team recall against Sheffield Wednesday this Sunday.

The 18-year-old forward announced his arrival to the senior side in style with a debut goal against the Owls during a 7-0 victory in the Capital One Cup earlier in the season.

Since then, the Blues’ striker crisis has seen Pozo regularly included in the match-day squad, though he has been rested over the Christmas period as the games came thick and fast.

With Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko still side-lined, Pozo could feature at some point against the Championship side and if he does, he admits he is hoping lightning strikes twice.

“I am ready if I am needed to help the first team,” said Jose.

If I get my chance to play on Sunday I will obviously be happy because I’ll always have special memories of Sheffield Wednesday

“It will be a club that I always remember because I made my debut against them and scored so it would be fantastic to play them again and re-live a very happy moment for me.”

Pozo admits he was pleased the Blues drew the Owls again, adding: “I did allow myself a smile when I saw we had drawn them again in the FA Cup and if I take part in this game, of course I hope that lightning strikes twice and that I can score again.

“But just because we won the Capital One Cup game 7-0, it doesn’t mean this won’t be a difficult match.

“We want to do well in this competition and it means a lot to this club because it was the trophy that started a run of success for us back in 2011.

“Looking ahead, it goes without saying I would like to stay with the first team and have more opportunities to play this season – that’s my objective – but we will see what happens.

“For now, I’m just enjoying everything and I’m happy that I’m able to contribute.”
