Manchester City will complete their pre-season preparations with a trip to Bundesliga outfit VfB Stuttgart.

Set to be played on Saturday 1 August, Manuel Pellegrini’s squad will travel to Germany to compete in a friendly fixture at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

The fixture comes one week prior to the start of the new Barclays Premier League season and will offer the Blues a final chance to prepare ahead of their bid to regain their domestic crown and challenge for European honours.

Stuttgart narrowly avoided relegation from Germany’s top tier last season with a superb run of form in their final three fixtures and will welcome City’s visit as an early test of their own return to form.

Manager Pellegrini expects a tough test as his side makes the trip across Europe:

“Vfb Stuttgart will provide a stern test at a crucial time in our pre-season preparations.

“The Mercedes-Benz Arena is an outstanding football venue and one that we are thoroughly looking forward to visiting.

“The closer we get to that first game of the season, the more focused our players will be on being included on that first day of the Premier League season and so fans can expect a great contest.”

The fixture will act as the highlight of VfB’s annual open day during which fans will be invited to the Arena to participate in a host of activities.

Robin Dutt, member of board of the VfB Stuttgart board said: “Manchester City is an outstanding European team, who we are really happy to welcome in Stuttgart.

“We are looking forward to a tough and important test for our team, which is, in addition, an inspiring highlight for the big audience on VfB’s season opening day.”
