What they said
City manager Manuel Pellegrini: “They have very big players, maybe they are the most important team in the world but we also have very good players and we know that if we play how we play every week we have an option to win.”
Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane: “It will be a very, very difficult game. But the good thing is that we play the return at home.
“Madrid are always favourites, and always will be. But we know how difficult it is to play a Champions League semi-final against Manchester City. We will do our best to go through.”
Real’s recent form
Real eased to victory over Getafe on the day after the draw was made, winning 5-1. The goals were spread around, with Karim Benzema, Isco, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez & Cristiano Ronaldo all getting in on the act.
Bale & Benzema were rested for the second 45 with one eye on Wednesday’s meeting with Villarreal. Real are third in La Liga, behind Barcelona and fellow Champions League semi-finalists Atletico Madrid, with the top separated only by goal difference.
Real in England
Los Blancos have a decent record in England, unbeaten in their last four visits to these shores and with six wins and three draws in 14 matches in all European competitions over here.
Last time here
Real visited City in a group stage match in November 2012, taking an early lead through Benzema. City clawed their way back in thanks to a penalty from ex-Atletico man Sergio Aguero to earn a point from the 1-1 draw.
