We are the first ‘new’ English outfit to make the last four since Arsenal in 2006, joining some exalted company from throughout the history of the Champions League and its predecessor, the European Cup.
Manchester United made it this far in 1957, and have been followed down the years by:
Tottenham Hotspur
Liverpool
Leeds United
Derby County
Nottingham Forest
Aston Villa
Chelsea
Arsenal
One man guided two of these clubs to the last four. The great Brian Clough, ably assisted by Peter Taylor, managed Derby to the semis in 1973, and went on to win the trophy with Forest in 1979 and 1980.
The Blues have made it this far in Europe once before, beating Schalke 04 in the European Cup-Winners’ Cup in 1970.
Who will we get this time? The draw for the semi-finals is at 10:30 BST on Friday, 15 April – make sure you’re across @MCFC on Twitter and www.mcfc.co.uk for all the news as it happens.
