The Argentine striker missed the target completely from 12 yards in the first half of City’s gripping win over PSG, having been clipped by the Parisians goalkeeper Kevin Trapp to win the spot kick.
But despite the shock of a rare Aguero miss, the Blues held firm and claimed a last four place thanks to Kevin De Bruyne’s brilliant winner with 14 minutes remaining.
“Missing a penalty is obviously not a good thing, but fortunately it’s all gone now,” mused Sergio. “The important thing is that we played well and we are very happy.
“PSG are a good team with good players. We had a good game in Paris and here, we did what we had to do and, luckily, we got the victory.
“In order to win the Champions League you have to play against the best teams and today we played against one of them.”
And the significance of the win for City manager Manuel Pellegrini was not lost on the prolific frontman.
“It is important for him (Pellegrini) and for everybody, but especially for him. We know he won’t be here the next season so I guess he must be very happy. I hope we can go further.”
