An important result was needed in Paris earlier in the week and Kevin De Bruyne was huge a part of City’s creditable draw at the Parc des Princes.
The Belgian knows the team still has a lot of work to do in the Premier League and that continues this Saturday as the Blues host the Baggies in the day’s late kick-off.
De Bruyne was also on the scoresheet in City’s last Premier League outing in Bournemouth and Kevin is aiming for more of the same.
“You try to score quickly against these sorts of teams but if it doesn’t always happen, so you have to be patient,” he said.
“We will have a lot of the ball but I think if you move a lot as a player and move the ball quickly we will create chances. The main thing is to try and score as quickly as possible.
“We know that we’ve made some mistakes this year. It happens in a season. One season everything will go right and in another season you will have difficulties and injuries etc.
“I think the title is going to be difficult now. The main prospect now is to be in the top four but there’s still a lot of difficult games to come for everybody.
“If we put a good performance in this weekend we can put a lot of pressure on a lot of teams around us because they are playing each other and that’s the main thing.”
It’s been an excellent first season for Kevin and ever since he joined in August last season’s Bundesliga Player of the Year felt right at home.
“I think the thing that most gave me confidence at that particular time was that they [City] were busy trying to contact me,” De Bruyne remembers.
“They called every day until the day that I signed here. They pushed for me to come and for me that gave me a great sign that they were interested and that I could be important over here.
“You get injured and you get frustrated in that moment because you know you’re going to be out for 10 weeks or so but it’s stupid to be frustrated about not being on the pitch if you know you’re not able to be.
“So I just work very hard to be back on the field as quickly as possible to support my team and all the rest is out of my hands at that point.”
And finally, of course there’s been another landmark moment in the Belgian’s life since the day he stepped foot in Manchester.
On March 10 2016 Kevin’s son, Mason Milian De Bruyne was born.
Kevin added: “Fatherhood is good. Your life changes but at the end of the day I am still a footballer and he is doing well so it’s an exciting time for me.”
