Pablo Zabaleta says City are ready for a cup final atmosphere at St James’ Park as Newcastle bid to escape the relegation zone.

The Magpies’ win at the weekend coupled with Norwich City’s loss to Sunderland means there is renewed belief on Tyneside that Rafa Benitez’s side can beat the drop.

But with the Blues still needing victories to secure a top four finish, Zabaleta says there will be no sympathy for the relegation-threatened hosts.

“It was a huge win for us at Chelsea because although the gap between us and Leicester is too great, we are still playing for Champions League football next season which is crucial for us,” said Zaba.

“Now we need to keep playing that way, keep winning games and finish as high as we can and we also have the Champions League semi-final coming up which are going to be huge matches for us so we have to keep the momentum going until the last kick of the season.

“It’s going to be another tough game on Tuesday evening. Even though Newcastle are not in the best situation at the moment, it is vital for them to try and stay in the Premier League.

“They had a very good win over Swansea on Saturday and their fans will be right behind their team trying to get another great performance out of them.

“We expect nothing less than a difficult evening, but we just have to forget Newcastle’s position and do what we’ve been doing in the last four or five games, have the same spirit and secure another three points.

“It’s very tight around us and we know we can’t afford to drop any points because Manchester United, West Ham and even Liverpool are waiting for us to slip-up.

“Since losing to United, we’ve won our last three games so we’ve responded to the challenge and we intend to continue responding by winning as many of our remaining matches as we can.”
