Pep's second competitive team selection is in...

Team news:

Nicolas Otamendi returns after a delay to the start of his season meaning Kolarov moves to his more familiar left-back role and Gael Clichy drops out of the XI.

The only other change is at right-back where Pablo Zabaleta takes over from Bacary Sagna in a switch that could become familiar throughout the season.

Starting XI: Caballero, Zabaleta, Otamendi, Stones, Kolarov, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Silva, Nolito, Sterling, Aguero

Subs: Hart, Clichy, Delph, Fernando, Navas, Iheanacho, Sagna

Possible formation:

Similar to Saturday, the Blues are likely to play in a fluid 4-3-3 formation to encourage plenty of movement between the midfielders.

Fernandinho will play deeper than Silva and De Bruyne, who will be looking to support Aguero, Nolito and Sterling in the front three.

Having Kolarov and Zabaleta in the full-back roles means the Blues are looking to be a threat from out wide as both will look to support and overlap the winger in front of them.

Confidence from the back...

Fresh from his outstanding debut against Sunderland, John Stones will be hoping to put in another composed showing with the ball at his feet. Playing alongside an experienced central defender in Nicolas Otamendi can only help the side, despite Kolarov’s excellent showing in that role on Saturday.

Pablo Zabaleta and Aleksandar Kolarov are both comfortable with the ball in tight situations too so expect a City side looking to play their way calmly from back to front.

Expect...

A focused and determined City. Pep has spoke of how important the Champions League is to him and the club and the Blues will be looking to showcase that in Bucharest tonight!
