City’s Director of Football Txiki Begiristain says the Blues have drawn difficult opposition in Steaua Bucharest.

Speaking shortly after the draw in Nyon, Begiristain said: “It’s going to be a tough game.

“Steaua are trying to get their European level back. This kind of game is always difficult.”

Begiristain also revealed that Pep Guardiola is relishing his first test in the competition since becoming City’s Head Coach.

He said: “Pep is happy. He is in a good mood and can’t wait to start the competition. He wanted to work in the Premier League and he’s there. The Champions League is obviously a big competition for him, for City and for everyone.”

In regard to the other teams in the League Route draw and the fate of Roma, Ajax, Borussia Monchengladbach and Villarreal, Begiristain added: “They are four big rivals also facing difficult matches.

“There are teams that play regularly in the last sixteen and some of them will be out already.  That is the good thing about this draw - it creates passion and excitement from the beginning.”
