John Stones believes City deserved a result from their 3-1 defeat to Chelsea.

City had led the Londoners 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium, courtesy of a Gary Cahill own-goal but succumbed to three potent counter attacks (Chelsea’s first three shots on target) to hand their fellow title challengers three points.

The hosts spurned chance after chance before Antonio Conte’s side levelled, and Stones insists those misses were solely to blame for the defeat.

“There is quite a sour feeling running through everyone’s mind,” he admitted. “It is a difficult one to take in the end.

“The scoreline didn’t reflect the way we played. In my opinion, we should have won 3-1 - but that’s football.

“From how we played, there are positives to take - playing out from the back, creating chances.

“If we had taken the chances at the start of the second half, it would have been a different story. It is a strange feeling for everyone.

“Chelsea were clinical.”
