Jason Wilcox’s side will be looking to make it eight wins in a row in all competitions when they travel to NE7 in their penultimate game of the first part of the season.
The young Blues picked up a victory against Manchester United in their last outing in the league, Lukas Nmecha and Brahim Diaz with the goals to secure the three points.
That was soon followed up by progression in the FA Youth Cup after they beat Wigan at the DW Stadium. Nmecha continued his fine scoring form as he notched in his sixth straight game to help City to a 3-1 after-extra-time win and, with it, a place in the quarter final.
The U18s can secure the league title this weekend should they win and Everton fail to pick up three points against Blackburn. City are currently top the league with 44 points from 20 games, an advantage of two points over the Toffees and have a superior goal difference.
Speaking to mcfc.co.uk ahead of the game, manager Wilcox is in high spirits and states that the squad’s focus is on the three points, rather than what is happening elsewhere.
He said: “We have a chance to win the league, which is a great credit to everybody who has been involved. This game is potentially another three points to move towards that target, but it is going to be an extremely difficult game Newcastle.
“It is always a difficult place to go, but we go up there in really high spirits and the lads have been great recently so I’m looking forward it.”
Wilcox continued: “I don’t think we should be worrying about what Everton are doing. They are a strong outfit, they’ve got a record of winning this league so they’re not going to give it up easily.”
The 44-year old says that the young Blues have been looking good in training ahead of the final two games of the first part of the season and believes they’re ready for any challenge they’re faced with.
“The lads have looked great in training this week. They’ve played at a real high tempo after having a few days off at the weekend and are looking good ahead of the weekend’s game.”
