1953
Jimmy Meadows and Robert Cunliffe were on the score-sheet for City on this day 63 years ago as the Blues claimed a 2-1 win against Portsmouth in First Division.
The win was to prove very important for City as the Blues would stay in the First Division by one point at the end of the season!
1976
Goals from Peter Barnes and an unforgettable overhead kick by Dennis Tueart give City their first trophy for six years after beating Newcastle United 2-1 in the League Cup Final at Wembley.
It was Tony Book’s first – and only – trophy under his tenure as City boss, though few realised it would be 35 years before the Club would win silverware again.
2004
City’s Eastlands jinx continues after an 11th game in succession without victory. Eidur Gudjohnsen’s 82nd minute goal proves to be enough to give Chelsea a 1-0 win and to leave Kevin Keegan’s side perilously close to the foot of the table.
Just two wins in 13 Premier League home games is the reason the Blues are struggling, though relegation is ultimately avoided.
2005
City stage a brilliant fight-back from two goals down to secure a 3-2 victory over Norwich City with a last-minute winner from Robbie Fowler – the 200th league goal of his career.
The game is perhaps best remembered, however, for Delia Smith’s infamous ‘Let’s be having you!’ outburst at half-time.
