The 19-year-old Irish midfielder scored the only goal of the game with a sublime first-time shot to give Cambuur a much-needed win that lifted them off the foot of the Dutch Eredivisie.

Back to England and League One, where Ian Lawlor tasted defeat with Bury, who were beaten 3-0 by high-flying Wigan. The goalkeeper tripped Will Grigg to give away a penalty for the Latics’ second goal, and was on Twitter afterwards to look ahead to a mid-table clash with Peterborough on Tuesday.

Defender Jason Denayer played twice for Galatasaray within the space of a few days. He played all 90 minutes as the Turkish side lost 3-1 to Lazio to end their interest in the Europa League, and was a late substitute three days later in their 2-0 loss to Gaziantepspor.
Striker Seko Fofana saw action for the first time in three weeks, making a brief cameo for Bastia in their 2-0 win at Nice. Anthony Caceres was also back for the first time in a while following suspension, but he was on the wrong end of Melbourne City’s 4-3 loss at Wellington in the Australian A-League.
And finally in Scotland Patrick Roberts was an unused substitute as Celtic were held 1-1 by Hamilton, but the winger later showed his admiration for Willy Caballero’s heroics in the Capital One Cup penalty shoot-out via the medium of social media.
