The Bundesliga side had just lost their first game against Freiburg just four days earlier but were in confident mood before the opening Champions League group match against Man City.

Of course, the first scheduled date saw torrential rain and lightning render the match unplayable and the game was played 24 hours later instead.

After a 0-0 home draw with Hamburg, Borussia travelled to Celtic Park where Man City had been held 3-3 and resurrected their hopes of progressing out of the group with a 2-0 victory.
In the Bundesliga, Monchengladbach then went down 2-0 to Bayern Munich but followed that with a 2-0 DFB Pokal Cup win over Stuttgart.
It was proving to be and down campaign for Schubert’s side who were finding that consistency was something hard to come by.
Things wouldn’t get any better in the league following a 0-0 home draw with Eintracht Frankfurt and a 1-1 Champions League draw with Celtic made the Germans’ hopes of progression to the knockout stages that much harder.
A difficult double-header against two of the Bundesliga’s most improved sides ended with back-to-back defeats for Monchengladbach who lost 3-0 in Berlin and the 2-1 at home to fourth-placed Cologne.
That means Borussia host Man City on Wednesday having won just four of the 13 games played since the Etihad reverse and have not won any of their last four matches.
They have also slipped to 13th in the Bundesliga table - no doubt looking for a win over Man City to resurrect their season!
