Gael Clichy says City need to kill teams off and be more clinical to avoid dropping more points at home.

The Blues had numerous chances to score more goals against Everton and Middlesbrough and could have edged victory over Southampton with better finishing and the stats back the French defender up.

In those three games, City have 58 shots, 18 of which were on target - but just three resulted in goals.

“It’s just the way some matches go when you have chances to score and don’t take them,” said Clichy.

“At 1-0 you are susceptible to a set-piece, penalty or any kind of mistake so I think we just need to learn how to kill the game when necessary because against Middlesbrough it was a bad goal to concede, especially so late in the game and we need to do better.

“We’ve dropped two more points at home but we should remember that this is not the end of the world, the season has really only just started and there are many games still to play.

“We have so much quality within our squad and for sure, when we start being more ruthless as a team then we can kick on again.

“The result against Barcelona showed what we are capable of when we are at our best, while Middlesbrough had two clear chances and scored one goal so as a defence, we need to make sure are much stronger and, when needed, find a way to close out the game.

“If we are two or three goals ahead in the closing moments the game is finished, so we need to keep working hard, progressing and I’m certain we will do that as the season goes forward.”
