The Belgian defender, 30, was taken off during the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend after a heavy collision with Claudio Bravo and now looks set for a period on sidelines, with Guardiola confirming he will be treated at Dr Ramon Cugat’s clinic in Barcelona.
“He has a problem with his knee,” Guardiola confirmed during a news conference at Borussia-Park ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League game against Monchengladbach. “He could be out for weeks. He’s sad and I’m sad. It’s a long time he doesn’t play.
“He is in the best hands so he can recover as soon as possible. He [Cugat] will make the best treatment possible.
“The doctor told me a few weeks [that Kompany will be out]. We’ll see. It is ligaments.”
Meanwhile, Guardiola admits the 3-1 win over Barcelona earlier this month was a significant moment for the club – but says his side can’t yet be considered favourites to lift the Champions League trophy in May.
“We were so happy with beating Barcelona,” he said. “But it was just one game. We cannot be considered favourites to win. Maybe in 10 years but we need time to achieve that.”
