Willy Caballero has praised the contribution of John Stones since joining from Everton this summer.

The 22-year-old has been a regular in Pep Guardiola’s new-look side – and the quality of his performances in a City shirt have been widely celebrated.

Stones, a ball-playing centre-half, has been key in helping create City’s build-up from deep, with his desire to step into midfield something Guardiola actively encourages.

Caballero believes his style makes him a unique English defender.

“He’s different to the normal centre-back in England,” he said. “They are always big and very good with high balls. John plays really well from the right side, the left side, and his passing always tries to build something.

“He does everything very well. We are really happy with him. I’m pretty sure England have a great centre-back for a long time.

“To play with John, with Nico, with Vincent, with Kola - for me, as a ‘keeper, is wonderful, because they have confidence and they have quality.

“John is so young but he plays as though he has been around for more years. He is growing up now with Pep and hopefully England can have a great centre-back in him.”

Caballero also believes Claudio Bravo is settling into life at City after his move from Barcelona this summer.

The Chilean enjoyed two hugely successful years as Barcelona’s No. 1 before switching to the Etihad in August.

He won two La Liga titles with the Catalan club but was convinced by Guardiola to try a new challenge in English football.

Caballero says Bravo’s improvement is clear with each passing training session.

“He is enjoying himself. He is playing and improving in training and in every single game,” he said.

“It’s quite difficult [for him to adapt] but I think he is doing very well.

“I think every player needs to feel the love of the people. He is doing very well so he just needs just time.”
