Barca
Looking at the team most likely to start against City, it seems there will be probably be three changes from the side that beat the Blues 1-0.
Dani Alves has moved to pastures new after eight seasons and close to 400 appearances for the Catalans.
The emergence of Sergi Roberto and Alaves’ desire to leave are the main reasons behind the switch – though Roberto faces a late fitness test. If he misses out Jeremy Mathieu could slot in.
Jordi Alba is also doubtful and so former PSG and Roma left-back Lucas Digne could deputise.
Sergio Busquets missed the last meeting but is likely to face City this time around.
City
City’s team is likely to contain just three or four of the players who last faced Barca.
The Blues, of course, also have Pep Guardiola at the helm following Manuel Pellegrini’s departure.
Fernandinho, Sergio Aguero and David Silva are likely to feature against Barca, but as many as eight players may not – at least from the start.
Joe Hart, Samir Nasri, Martin Demichelis and James Milner have all moved on either on loan or permanently while Yaya Toure is not in the Champions League squad.
From the players who started or remained on the bench, Edin Dzeko and Frank Lampard have left and Wilfried Bony is on loan with Stoke City.
Bacary Sagna is injured and it seems unlikely Vincent Kompany will be risked from the start.
Aleksandar Kolarov and Pablo Zabaleta could both begin against Barcelona while Fernando, Jesus Navas and Willy Caballero may be on the bench, just as they were against Everton.
Claudio Bravo will face his former club for the first time with Ilkay Gundogan, Raheem Sterling, Gael Clichy, Nolito, Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, Leroy Sane, Kelechi Iheanacho among the 11 players hoping to either start or play some part in Wednesday’s game.
